Loaded Gaba Porridge
Whole grains like oats, fruits especially blueberries, apples and bananas, seeds, nuts and fermented foods are great nutritional sources of Gaba. This is one of the most important neurotransmitters to support Autistic and ADHD minds. Gaba provides the brain with safe feedback, it helps us to feel relaxed and combats busy ruminating thoughts. It is why a bowl of oat and chia porridge is a great way to start the day.
I always combine oats with chia seeds in order to lift the fibre, protein and fat content, which will ensure the glucose from oats releases slowly, avoiding any blood sugar spikes. I like to cook the oats in whole organic milk with a splash of kefir, sweetened with vanilla. If you add a handful of frozen organic blueberries while it’s piping hot they melt and taste extra delicious, I also love apple compote. Add my marmalade granola for crunch, nut butter, or walnuts for healthy fats and a few more seeds to bump the Gaba with magnesium. This WILL keep your family locked up till lunch, yes really.
